We come to you for wheel cylinder repair
Brake wheel cylinders are a key component of hydraulic braking systems in cars with drum brakes.
Considered an essential safety item when it comes to stopping your car, each wheel cylinder has two pistons inside that get filled with brake fluid and push your brake shoes against the inside of your brake drums, bringing your car to a stop.
If you’ve noticed unusual sounds, a reduction in braking power or a spongy brake pedal, it might be your wheel cylinders. Lube Mobile can come to you to fit new brake shoes and wheel cylinders, adjust your drum brakes and then your handbrake before bleeding your entire brake system to ensure optimal performance.
It's easy to book online or call 13 30 32 to make an appointment with a qualified mechanic today.

How much does brake repair cost?
Not every braking system issue requires a brake pad replacement.
A brake pad on it's own is not expensive, costing between $50 to $100. However, once your brake pads have failed, which is quite common, you must consider changing other parts of your braking system including the brake caliper, brake drums, brake line/hose, brake shoes, disc rotors, wheel cylinders, master cylinder or wheel hub bearing which may be worn. The price of these components will largely depend on the make and model of your car and the overall condition of your braking system.
In instances where a foreign object gets caught inside a brake caliper or there’s dust or moisture between the brake pad and brake rotor disc, our mechanics can perform minor repairs to get them fixed. In all cases, our mechanics will inspect your vehicle and provide you with an itemised quote before we start any work. Got questions? Ask us. Our friendly team is here to help!

What do wheel cylinders do and why are they important?
Wheel cylinders are part of your vehicle's drum brake system. When you press your brake pedal, pressure from your car’s brake fluid forces the wheel cylinder against your brake shoes, pushing them against the inside of your brake drum.
Without the wheel cylinder, the brake shoes wouldn’t be able to push against the drum properly, and your car wouldn't stop as quickly as you might need.
Wheel cylinder vs. Master cylinder
Not to be confused with each other, the master cylinder holds your brake fluid and once the brake is pressed, sends it to the cast iron wheel cylinders, generating the hydraulic pressure needed to push the brake shoes against the drum.
Continuing to drive when one or both brake wheel cylinders are faulty or leaky is dangerous. If you’ve noticed reduced braking power, a spongy brake pedal, or leaking brake fluid near your wheels, your wheel cylinders might need attention.
Unsure about your car's wheel cylinder service history?
Book a routine service or repair today and we’ll come to you at a time and place that suits your schedule. We can usually reach you by the same or next business day!
How can I tell if my wheel cylinders need replacing?
In most cases, wheel cylinders need to be replaced rather than repaired, especially if they are leaking or have become worn over time. Attempting to repair a damaged wheel cylinder is likely to lead to unreliable braking, so a replacement at the same time as your brake shoes will guarantee the integrity of your drum braking system.
Here are three signs you might need to replace your wheel cylinders:
Spongy or soft brake pedal
Your brake pedal might feel soft, spongy, or it might go all the way to the floor. This can happen if the wheel cylinder is leaking or damaged, causing air to get into the brake lines or fluid to leak out.
Brake fluid leaking
Look out for puddles of brake fluid around your car’s wheels. If there's not enough brake fluid, your brakes won’t work properly, meaning your car might not stop when you need it to!
Inconsistent braking
If your car takes longer to stop or pulls to one side, the wheel cylinder might be faulty. The brakes might not be applying pressure evenly, which will impact emergency braking.
If you notice any of the above symptoms, it’s crucial that you book a routine service or repair today. We’ll come to you at a time and place that suits your schedule and can usually reach you by the same or next business day!
