About pink slip inspections
All vehicles over 5 years old require a safety inspection report.
If a vehicle passes the inspection, it receives a pink slip certification, certifying that it is roadworthy and fit to operate. It is then presented to the relevant authorities as proof of the vehicle’s roadworthiness for registration renewal.
Examples of light vehicles include passenger cars, motorcycles, and trailers or caravans with an aggregate trailer mass of 4.5 tonnes or less. Certain transport vehicles for goods may also fall under this category, depending on the make and model.

Who can perform a pink slip inspection?
An expert pink slip evaluation must be carried out by a licenced car mechanic or an authorised inspection station.
At Lube Mobile, we offer logbook services for cars under seven years old that are still following their logbook schedules. For older cars, we also offer yearly services, which include coolant and brake fluid changes and more. All of our auto mechanics are fully qualified technicians who have been professionally active for at least four years. They are also employees, not contract-based, and operate out of company vehicles, ensuring you’re getting the quality service Lube Mobile is known for.

How often do I need a pink slip inspection?
You will need an up-to-date pink slip certification if you plan to sell or transfer ownership of a vehicle over five years old.
A pink slip inspection is typically not required for the first five years after the manufacture date of your vehicle. However, once your vehicle surpasses the five-year mark, you’ll need a pink slip certification every year when renewing your registration. This process ensures that ageing vehicles on the road continue to meet safety standards.
It’s best to schedule your pink slip inspection ahead of your registration renewal. This way, you won’t face any hitches during the renewal process, and you don’t have to look up terms like ‘mechanic near me pink slip inspections’ at the last minute.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a pink slip for a car?
A pink slip, officially known as an eSafety Check, is a mandatory safety inspection required in NSW for vehicles more than five years old. It confirms your car is safe, roadworthy and meets Transport for NSW standards before you can renew your registration.
With Lube Mobile, you don’t need to drive to a workshop — our licensed mobile mechanics come to you and complete the pink slip inspection on‑site. Once your vehicle passes, we lodge the results electronically so you can renew your rego straight away.
Please note: This service is included with a Yearly Service plan or higher. It is not offered separately or as a standalone option.
How do I transfer car ownership with a pink slip?
To transfer car ownership in NSW, the vehicle needs a current pink slip (eSafety Check) if it’s more than five years old. Once the inspection is complete and the vehicle passes, the results are sent directly to Transport for NSW.
You can then complete the ownership transfer online through Service NSW or at a service centre. Lube Mobile can take care of the pink slip inspection at your home or workplace so the transfer process runs smoothly without delays.
Please note: This service is included with a Yearly Service plan or higher. It is not offered separately or as a standalone option.
How much does it cost to get a new pink slip?
The cost of a pink slip (eSafety Check) is set by the NSW government. At Lube Mobile, this service is included with a Yearly Service plan or higher. It is not offered separately or as a standalone option. We will provide the full price of the inspection and selected car service upfront before any work begins.
This means no surprises — just fast, convenient, on‑site inspections.
Pink slip vs. car title: what’s the difference?
A pink slip is a safety inspection required for registration renewal in NSW.
A car title (Certificate of Registration) is the legal proof of ownership.
They serve completely different purposes:
- Pink slip = confirms roadworthiness
- Car title = confirms ownership
Lube Mobile provides pink slip inspections, while ownership documents are handled through Service NSW.
Please note: This service is included with a Yearly Service plan or higher. It is not offered separately or as a standalone option.
What are the common mistakes when filling out a pink slip?
Most pink slip issues happen before the inspection, not during it. Common mistakes include:
- Letting your registration expire before booking the inspection
- Assuming a pink slip lasts longer than 6 months
- Forgetting that modified vehicles may need additional checks
- Ignoring obvious safety issues like worn tyres, faulty lights or weak brakes
Lube Mobile can help you avoid these problems by inspecting your vehicle on‑site and advising you on any repairs needed before the pink slip is issued.
Please note: This service is included with a Yearly Service plan or higher. It is not offered separately or as a standalone option.
What do I do if I lost my car’s pink slip?
If you’ve misplaced your pink slip, there’s no need to worry. Pink slips are lodged electronically with Transport for NSW, so you don’t need a physical copy to renew your registration.
If your pink slip has expired or you need a new one, Lube Mobile can issue a fresh inspection on the spot.
Please note: This service is included with a Yearly Service plan or higher. It is not offered separately or as a standalone option.
What documents do I need for a pink slip?
For a standard pink slip inspection, you don’t need to bring any paperwork. All you need is:
- Your vehicle
Your registration plate number
- Access to the car for the inspection
Because pink slips are submitted electronically, there’s no physical form to fill out. Lube Mobile handles the entire process on‑site and sends the results straight to Transport for NSW.
Please note: This service is included with a Yearly Service plan or higher. It is not offered separately or as a standalone option.
Where do I get a pink slip for my car?
You can get a pink slip from any authorised inspection station in NSW — including Lube Mobile. Our mobile mechanics are fully certified to carry out eSafety Checks at your home, workplace or wherever your car is parked.
We handle the entire process on the spot and submit your pink slip directly to Transport for NSW, making your registration renewal quick and stress‑free.
Please note: This service is included with a Yearly Service plan or higher. It is not offered separately or as a standalone option.
