Your slave cylinder sends brake fluid to your clutch components whenever they need it.
Working by converting hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder into mechanical force, your clutch slave cylinder pushes the clutch release mechanism and allows you to change gears safely.
If your clutch pedal drops to the floor, the clutch slave cylinder could be leaking or failing. Once your slave cylinder loses fluid or pressure, your clutch pedal won’t work properly.

How much does clutch repair cost?

While a total clutch replacement can cost from $500 to $1,200, it largely depends on the make and model of your car. For 4WDs, performance cars and more exotic vehicles, the cost of a clutch alone can reach $2,000. With any clutch replacement the largest cost is labour, as it will take time to disassemble and replace all the clutch components. As most clutches are reasonably sturdy, you should only need to replace it every 200,000 kilometres, or roughly once over the lifetime of most cars. If you have recently purchased a car that is nearing this limit, it's a good idea to book a mobile clutch service to ensure that everything is working safely.
