How much does clutch repair cost?

For 4WDs, performance cars and more exotic vehicles, the cost of a clutch alone can reach $2,000. What is a clutch bearing and what does it do?
Your clutch bearing (or clutch release bearing) is an integral part of your clutch system that helps you to smoothly engage and disengage your wheels from your engine, allowing you to shift gears without grinding or damaging your transmission.
How does a clutch bearing work?
By reducing friction between the clutch fork and the pressure plate, the clutch bearing allows your manual transmission to go through the gears without causing long term damage.
When you press the clutch pedal, the clutch fork pushes the clutch bearing toward the pressure plate, which releases pressure on the clutch disc and separates it from the flywheel. This interrupts power to your transmission, allowing you to change gears smoothly.
