The 10 Most Expensive Cars in the World

This is a topic that will never grow old or stale: the annual list of most expensive cars in the world. What boy, young or old, has not dreamt of owning an exclusive super car built by legendary car makers like Ferrari or Lamborghini? But at prices starting from over $800,000, it will take the average boy several lifetimes of weekly allowances and paper routes to own one of these…

No. 10: Porsche 918 Spyder

Price: $845,000.

Top Speed: over 320 km/h

Acceleration: 0-97km/h, 3.1 seconds

Porsche debuted the 918 Spyder in 2010 as a concept car and has since released it in limited edition. The Spyder is Porsche’s first plug-in hybrid car.

No. 9: 2012 SSC Tuatara

Price: $970,000 (estimated)

Top Speed: 440 km/h

Acceleration: 0-97km/h; 2.5 seconds

Designed by Jason Castriota, the 2012 SSC Tuatara features dihedral stabilisers at the sides, channelling air towards the engine intakes. For roughly half the price of the Veyron Bugatti Super Sport, the Tuatara is a formidable upstart challenger to the title of fastest car.

No. 8: Hennessey Venom GT

Price: $1 million (1,200hp edition)

Top Speed: 440 km/h

Acceleration: 0-97km/h; 2.5 seconds

Production of the Hennessey Venom GT is limited to just 10 vehicles per year, and as of October 2011, only four Venom GTs have been manufactured. Hennessey plans to open dealers and distribution centres for the Venom GT in Australia, Asia, Europe, Middle East and Russia.

No. 7: Pagani Huayra

Price: $1.3 million

Top Speed: 370 km/h

Acceleration: 0-97km/h; 3.5 seconds

The Pagani Huayra incorporates active aerodynamics, possessing movable front and rear flaps to control air flow around the car — although finding a car repair shop that can fix these may be difficult.

No. 6: Aston Martin One-77

Price: $1.4 million

Top Speed: 350km/h

Acceleration: 0-97km/h; 3.5 seconds

The Aston Martin One-77 is an award-winning car, receiving several internationally renowned design awards including the Concorso d’Eleganza Design Award for Concept Cars and Prototypes and the “Best Design” award by the UK motoring magazine Auto Express.

No.5: Maybach Landaulet

Price: $1.4 million

Acceleration: 0-97km/h; 4.5 seconds

Purely a luxury car, with a model designed for chauffeured driving, the Maybach line of supercars will be phased out by 2013 by Daimler AG due to low profitability.

No.4: Lamborghini Reventon

Price: $1.6 million

Top Speed: 355km/h

Acceleration: 0-97km/h; 3.3 seconds

The Lamborghini Reventon is the most powerful and expensive of the Lamborghini family. It may also be the most exclusive: only 20 have ever been built.

No. 3: 2012 Koenigsegg Agera R

Price: $1.7 million

Top Speed: 395 km/h

Acceleration: 0-97km/h; 2.9 seconds

The Koenigsegg Agera R boasts the Koeniggsegg proprietary in-house engine, built on-site, at their own factory.

No. 2: Zenvo ST1

Price: $1.8 million

Top Speed: 375 km/h

Acceleration: 0-97 km/h; 3.0 seconds

A high performance sports car, it is also exclusive: production is limited to three per year.

No. 1: Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

Price: $2.6 million

Top Speed: 431 km/h

Acceleration: 0-97km/h; 2.4 seconds

The Bugatti Veyron is by far the most expensive and one of the fastest of the world’s cars. Owning one is a dream, but driving one would be a nerve-wracking. The car repairs on this one would be unbelievable.
